Cycling through rolling Gaasterland

As you cycle along quiet roads, you'll enjoy the panoramic views and tranquility. From Hooibergen, the landscape begins to gently undulate. You'll also see the forests for which Gaasterland is famous. At junction 17, for example, you'll cycle for a while along the Rijsterbos forest. This nature reserve was established by a regent family as early as the 17th century. Further on, you'll pass through the Elfbergen, the largest forest in Gaasterland. In the adjacent Lycklamabos, you'll cycle among ancient beech and oak trees. This route also offers plenty of Frisian cultural history. You'll cycle through Balk, a picturesque village that enjoys a protected village view.
