Cycling through rolling Gaasterland

While cycling on car-free roads, you can enjoy the views and the peace. From Hooibergen the landscape starts to undulate slightly. You can also see the forests that Gaasterland is known for. At junction 17, for example, you cycle a bit along the Rijsterbos. This nature reserve was already created in the seventeenth century by a regent family. Further on you come through the Elfbergen, the largest forest in Gaasterland. In the adjacent Lycklamabos you cycle between old beeches and oaks. During this route you will not be short of Frisian cultural history. For example, you cycle through Balk, a picturesque town that enjoys a protected village view.
