Description

After a cup of coffee at't Oude Raadhuys, you first cycle to the Westeinderplassen, created by the excavation of the peat for peat extraction. With 1000 hectares, this is the largest lake in the Netherlands. The rare European catfish swims around here. Aalsmeer is located on the shore, world famous thanks to its lively flower trade. You will also pass the Fort at Kudelstaart, part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. The first earthworks for the fortress took place in 1890. The fort itself was built in 1905 and 1906. In appearance, the fort has been well preserved; One of the two fort keeper's houses and the mountain shed are still there. Back you cycle straight through the Langeraarse Plassen, which consist of two lakes. You see many fisherman staring at their fishing rods!
