Description
This route takes you for a day to one of the treasures of the Netherlands: the Kop van Overijssel. You will find an unprecedented wealth of nature and cultural history here, because you cycle through Giethoorn and the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. A day full of experiences.
Kuinderbos
The Weerribben-Wieden is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. And one of the quietest. In this swampy swamp area you drive past endless reed beds, marshes and watercourses. As pristine as this area looks, it has been shaped by peat extraction over the centuries. You also take a trip to the salty Kuinderbos in the Noordoostpolder. Shell remains can still be found in the ground between the trees.
Romantic foot spring
Giethoorn really needs no introduction: in the Venice of the North you will be amazed. On the Hoogeweg in the Weerribben you can see several authentic nineteenth-century farm workers' houses. To get to Dwarsgracht, cross the Walengracht with a pedestrian ferry. In high season the crossing costs € 1.10.
