In the woods and meadows near Borkel it is wonderfully quiet for a walk. This route takes you through part of the Dommeldal, the Leenderbos and the village of Schaft.
Doom valley
The Dommel is a small river that originates near Peer in Belgium. At Borkel he winds his way through meadows and forests at his leisure. In the Dommeldal you walk between meadows and farmlands, in some places you see groups of orchids. Some of the plots are still separated by old hedgerows. Along the water you will see willows, poplars and birches. Walking along the Dommel provides beautiful tranquil views. Take the time to enjoy it.
Kempian long-gable farm
In the villages of Borkel and Schaft you can see some beautiful old buildings. At the intersection of the Dorpsstraat and Schafterdijk in Schaft, you will see a monumental Kempen long-gable farmhouse from 1745 at number 40. Past Schaft, you walk a bit into the Leenderbos. You walk here between the Scots pines and Douglas firs that were planted for the production of mining wood. The further you walk into the forest, the more you are surrounded by the silence.
