Walking across the Oirschotse Heide

The Oirschotse Heide is a vast nature reserve in Brabant where you can enjoy a nice walk. In this varied area you will find many plant and animal species. An ideal route to catch up with friends and family or to seek some peace and quiet.

Stretch legs
It is always wonderful to stretch your legs in a varied area. And you will certainly find variety on the Oirschotse Heide, where there are dry plateaus and wet bowl-shaped depressions. In this extensive nature reserve you walk through heathlands that bloom beautifully from August. Between the Scots pines you can smell that typical pine scent, especially after a rain shower. At a hidden fen you can dream away or clear your head while gazing over the shiny water.

Spotting butterflies
It is nice to walk along the sandy paths. You can regularly see a buzzard circling above open woodlands. Species such as nightjar and even black grouse also breed here. It is not just birds that fly over the Oirschotse Heide, because this is one of the most important butterfly areas in the Netherlands. Beautiful species such as heather blue, gentian blue and the comma butterfly flutter here.
