Montferland, Gelderland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 394774
Provided by: route.nl
This route takes you past vast meadows full of blooming daisies (or spring flowers) and other flowers in the rolling landscape of the Montferland forests. Be sure to stop at Huis Bergh Castle, one of the largest moated castles in the Netherlands. The oldest parts of this castle date from 1250, but other parts of the castle were built in the 14th, 15th and 17th centuries. The Boetselaersborg was built in 1550 by the two bastard sons of Willem III van den Bergh. There used to be a moat around the castle, but that is no longer the case. The deposit is not open to visitors, but you can of course view the beautiful building from a distance. Stop off at Down Town Wehl along the way!
