Tour of Elst, Rhenen and Amerongen

After a cup of coffee at the Wapen van Elst, you get on your bike. This cycle route combines the best of both worlds: the wooded southern area of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the water-rich surroundings of the Neder-Rijn. On the edge of Veenendaal lies the country estate Prattenburg. On the estate stands a house with a castle-like appearance, built in 1887. The estate was first mentioned in a document from 1474. Over the southernmost part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug you cycle to De Burgwal, located on the edge of Amerongen. Here three sheepfolds have been built close together. On the south side of Amerongen lies Amerongen Castle, which has existed since 1286. That year Floris van Holland ordered the original house to be built.
