De Fryske Marren, Friesland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 393753
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Gaasterland is part of the National Landscape Southwest Friesland. This area does not consist of flat meadows like the largest part of Friesland, but of slightly undulating forests. An ideal region to explore by bike. The first kilometer you still ride through the flat Frisian countryside. Just before junction 23 you make a small climb. Here you ride on the boulder clay ridge that was already pushed up in the Ice Age. In the esdorp Oudemirdum you pass the Fontein, a church from 1790. You ride through the Jolderenbos, further on you pass the more than 2 meter high Mirnser Klif. The route then leads you to one of the Frisian lakes, after which you ride to Oudega and to the picturesque Balk.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
