Vechtdal walk Hoogengraven and the Hessenweg

Your route starts at Camping De Kleine Wolf. Have a cup of coffee at Brasserie De Wolventuin before you set off! You are in the middle of the beautiful Vechtdal, which consists of various nature reserves through which the Vecht meanders. Today you will discover a different side of the area: the forests and heaths north of the river, just east of Ommen. You walk through Hoogengraven nature cemetery in the woods near Arriën. The pools are a drinking place for all kinds of animals and you can see lizards sunbathing on the small sand drifts. An ancient area where the Hessenwagen used to drive over the wasteland: you can still see the Hessenweg. Hessenwegen are among the oldest trade roads in the eastern Netherlands. Wagons and carts drove back and forth.
