This fort was used as a fortification between 1897 and 1956. The original layout inside the fort has been preserved, but otherwise some things have changed over the centuries.

The Tweede Broekermolen was built in 1632 in Uitgeest. This mill, together with four other mills that have now disappeared, drained the polder Uitgeester and Heemskerkerbroek on the Schermerboezem.

The Fort bij Veldhuis is one of the oldest concrete fortresses on the Defense Line of Amsterdam and is named after the nearby farm 'Veldhuis', which still exists. Since 1989, the fort has housed the Air War Museum of the Aircraft Recovery Group 1940-1945 foundation. The old rooms are now filled with impressive remains of bombers and other objects from the Second World War. Open every Sunday in the months of May to October from 10 am to 5 pm.
