Walking route for February 15, 2023.
The route starts on the north side of Wijchen station . We are already welcomed there, by a work of art by graffiti artist Moris . Not by chance, because we are going to see more of his works. There is ample opportunity to park your car or bicycle on the north side of the station.
Then we cross the railway and immediately turn right behind the station restaurant. We go into the basement: the parking garage . Graffiti works can be seen over 2 floors, which are related to the old station and the surrounding area.
Then we head west to the next level crossing. There is a good chance that we will have to wait for the train, but otherwise on the other side is the former home of master Mes. And to the left of it with a very large glass front, which is now called" Villa Mes". That building replaced the former Mehallen . The unique facade should ensure that residents are less bothered by train noises.
We turn left a little further into Merlijnstraat , continue through Zwaluwstraat and turn right at the end. Passeweg for a bit and then turn left into the Passedwarsstraat . We walk along" residential location Hof van de Elst" and cross the Klapstraat . Busy road, so pay attention!
On the other side we walk into the Homberg district, until we reach a T-junction. There we turn right and follow the road, which bends to the left a little further. On the facades of the rows of houses you can see graffiti works by Moris and Dosan , among others. On the right is a primary school, De Bolster , with an old farm just beyond. A Hallehuis farm, but slightly different. Because of the extension to the left and right of the front house, a T has been created, to which the type of farm owes its name: T-farm.
We walk between the rows of houses: there is a path between no. 2933 and 2921 . We will also follow that when it becomes a bit wider. We cross the 15th street of the Homberg and continue our way towards the railway. Near the railway is a green strip, where we walk to the left. There are also some coastal objects there. If we continue walking, we will cross the Klapstraat again, now there are traffic lights... We will continue to walk along the railway until the end of the Passeweg . There we turn right over the railway (that is, if no train passes by...).
Across the street is the building in which the Jumbo is located. We enter the parking lot through the back entrance (\\\" de Poort"). There is another beautiful graffiti work by Moris : Don Emmanuel of Portugal at his castle. He lived there with his Emilia van Nassau .
We leave the car park, cross the Heerenstraat and walk to the blue door, the back entrance of the Bristol building. Frank van Maasdijk has his temporary Carnival Museum there. We can admire his collection and also... Enjoy his homemade cream soup.
When we're done eating and looking at the collection, we leave the building at the front. That is the Spoorstraat , which we follow with the bend to the left and immediately after the dice to the right. The Emilialaantje runs past the castle garden, where you can turn left about halfway between the houses. Behind it is the Baron d\\\'Osystraat (also a former resident of the castle!). We turn right towards the mill. A bit up the mill mountain and for those who want a bit further for photos of the mill. Unfortunately, the mill is closed on Wednesdays. By the way, on the right is the fire station with the eco-roof. From the Molenberg we turn left towards the station, the end of our walk.
[Who knows, maybe I can ask the miller to show us the inside and give us some explanation...]
