The Hidden Village
Between the woods of the Veluwe there used to be the hiding camp'Pas-Opkamp\\\', also known as the Hidden Village. This village was founded during the Second World War by a family from Nunspeet and a lawyer from Vierhouten to accommodate people fleeing the German occupier. The camp consisted of nine huts, some of which were semi-underground huts, which were used to house about eighty to one hundred people. Nowadays you will find a monument and a reconstructed hut of the people in hiding on the site of the former camp. On the rest of the route you can enjoy the beautiful nature.

The history of the Veluwe
The Veluwe largely consists of moraines that were created during the penultimate ice age. For a long time this area consisted of vast forests, but during the Middle Ages many of those forests were cut down. The wind then got hold of the sandy soils, creating sand drifts and drifting dunes. Later, forests were planted here again to ensure that the sand cannot just go in all directions. This is how the unique landscape of the Veluwe was created, full of forests, heaths and sand drifts.
