Description
Take a bike ride near Alphen aan den Rijn. This area is located in the Groene Hart and consists of a typical Dutch polder landscape. Here you will find windmills, farms and lots of water in the form of ditches, rivers, canals and lakes. It's almost impossible to get more Dutch.
Quiet polder areas
Boskoop is the starting point of this route. From here, set course for Waddinxveen and admire the view over the vast polders along the way. Just before you enter Waddinxveen you pass through the Gouwebos. From Waddinxveen you cycle in the direction of Gouda and then in the direction of Zwammerdam. You then follow the course of the Oude Rijn for a while to Hazerswoude-dorp. Along the way you mainly cycle through quiet polder areas that are intersected by ditches and canals.
Grand Café Roos food & drink
Eventually you end up in Boskoop at Grand Café Roos food & drink. The perfect time to take a break to take a breather from the ride. Take a seat in the authentic building from the 1930s or settle down on the terrace with a beautiful view over the rosarium and enjoy a tasty snack and a drink. The menu consists of dishes from French and international cuisine.
Take a look at a mill
On this route you will pass no fewer than three windmills. The first mill you cycle past is De Dikke Molen. This mill was built in 1674 to drain the Zuid- and Noordeinderpolder. A little further on you cycle past Molen No. 3 from 1823. This mill is still used to drain a polder. The last mill on this route is the Rietveldse Mill. This mill was built in 1648 to drain the Rietveldse Polder. The mill is now used as a residence.
