Description
This cycling route starts at Camping Welgelegen near Workum. This is cycling junction 19. Learn more about the cultural history of the area while cycling.
You cycle over the old sea dike (Oosterdijk) towards the picturesque town of Hindeloopen. Here you will discover the history of this important trading city on the IJsselmeer.
You continue down the IJsselmeer coast. Turn left before the village of Molkwerum. You continue south until you reach the IJsselmeer coast again. This area is also called Gaasterland. It is hilly because of the moraines. This originated in the penultimate Ice Age. You will find cliffs along the southern part of the IJsselmeer coast.
In Laaxum you will find the smallest fishing port in Europe. You cycle along the forests of the Rysterbosk back to the north. This forest already existed before 1718.
Via Bakhuizen, Hemelum you arrive at De Morra lake. This is one of the many Frisian Lakes in the area. This lake was also created after the penultimate Ice Age because the ice between the moraines of Warns, Koudum and Gaasterland retreated.
Via the village of Koudum you follow the road back to junction 19 / Camping Welgelegen.
