Cycling through the Drents-Friese Wold and Vledder

The Drents-Friese Wold is one of the largest contiguous forest areas in the Netherlands. It is therefore not surprising that you cycle through nature almost the entire route. And what nature! You cycle through vast forests where summer oaks, beeches and conifers grow. You also cycle through the Doldersummer- and Wapserveld, two vast adjacent heathlands. In the wet areas, bell heather, cotton grass and marsh gentian grow, on the dry parts you see heather and mouse-ear. From junction 82 you cycle over the Aekingerzand. In this drifting sand area, weather and wind have free rein. You pass the Grenspoel, further on there is a lookout tower. Finally, you cycle a bit through the valley of the Vledder Aa. In Vledder itself you cycle past the picturesque old Brink. The route ends at Camping Padjelanta.
