Walking route through the Aamsveen near Enschede

This route introduces you to Aamsveen. This was once part of a raised bog area that covered a large part of eastern Netherlands and extended into Germany. Large parts of this raised bog were reclaimed for agriculture. The Aamsveen is one of the few remaining remnants of the old raised bog. So fun to explore. In addition to raised bogs, you will also find swamp forests, heathland and poor grassland here. An ideal landscape for butterflies such as the heather blue. You follow part of the Noaberpad, a long-distance hiking trail. You will walk a bit across the border with Germany, and you will also pass a lookout tower. At the end of this route you will walk through the Twente scenic landscape. The route ends with a visit to the store of Zuivelboerderij Holterhof.
