Cycling through the Twente forests and heathlands

Between Enschede and Haaksbergen you cycle through some beautiful nature reserves. First you drive a bit through the Aamsveen, where heathland and poor grassland predominate. Then you drive through the rural area along the border with Germany. What is immediately striking here is the tranquility. From junction 80 you cycle through the Witte Veen, a little further on you pass through the Haaksbergerveen. These two areas, together with the Aamsveen, once formed one large raised bog area that extended into Germany. Now you cycle through an open landscape with moist heathlands. In the Buurserzand you will find dry drifting sand, shrub heath and gorse. You cycle the last part of the route along the natural edge of Enschede. You pass Holterhof Campers, after which you get off at Zuivelboerderij Holterhof.
