Route Oude Warande and Wandelbos

With this walk you explore two Tilburg city parks. First you walk through the Oude Warande. This starry forest was created in 1712 by order of Willem van Hessen-Kassel, a German general who was in the service of the Republic of the United Netherlands. The Oud Warande is one of the few well-preserved star forests in the Netherlands. You walk along a wide avenue to the center of the park. You will see coniferous and deciduous trees, and you may also encounter the Siberian ground squirrel here. You then walk along the edge of Tilburg University and past an ornamental pond into the Wandelbos. This romantic-style city park was designed in 1917 by Leonard Springer. It was constructed as a job creation project and was not completed until 1937. The route ends at Uitspanning De Zeven Geitjes.
