Route Oude Warande and Wandelbos

With this walk you explore two Tilburg city parks. First you walk through the Oude Warande. This star forest was created in 1712 by order of Willem van Hessen-Kassel, a German general who was in the service of the Republic of the United Netherlands. The Oud Warande is one of the few well-preserved star forests in the Netherlands. You walk across a wide avenue to the center of the park. You see coniferous and deciduous trees, you can also encounter the Siberian ground squirrel here. You then walk into the Wandelbos along the edge of Tilburg University and past an ornamental pond. This romantic-style urban park was designed in 1917 by Leonard Springer. It was built as a job relief project and was not completed until 1937. The route ends at Uitspanning De Zeven Geitjes.
