Tour of Kuinderbos and Rottige Meenthe

The first kilometers will stretch your legs as you cycle over the dike along the Linde. This river forms the border between Friesland and Overijssel. From the saddle you have a beautiful view over grasslands, reed collars and rippling water. At Slijkenburg you turn south and drive along the canal to Kuinre. This fishing village was once located on the Zuiderzee, now it borders the Kuinderbos, the largest and oldest forest in the Noordoostpolder. The hundreds of thousands of young trees that have been planted here after hard work have created a beautifully varied nature reserve. Via Scherpenzeel and Munnekeburen you make another half circuit around the Rottige Meente, a nature reserve of water, reeds and flowering grasslands. At Paviljoen Driewegsluis you are welcome for a snack and drink on the terrace.
