Tour of the Buitencentrum and Nijverdalseberg

Your route starts at Restaurant De Budde in Nijverdal. Take a look at the Sallandse Heuvelrug Outdoor Center before you walk into the national park, where you will learn everything about this special area. This route takes you over the Nijverdalse Berg in the north of the park. There is occasionally some climbing on the Sallandse Heuvelrug, but that is what makes the area so special. The hills of the Sallandse Heuvelrug were formed 200,000 years ago by glaciers from Scandinavia. The ridge was once covered with heather, but now there are also forests to prevent sand drifts. The ancient juniper bushes are beautiful, as are the irregularly shaped old oak trees. One of the two remaining groups of grouse in the Netherlands still lives in this area.
