Tour of Schultenwolde and Almelo

This route takes you through Almelo and the surrounding area. First you drive to Landgoed Schultenwolde. Here you will find a small-scale cultural landscape, but also forest and heathland. You pass the Hondeven, a so-called pingo ruin that is estimated to be 25,000 years old. Further on you cycle a bit along the canal that connects Almelo with Nordhorn in Germany. Then you cycle onto the Gravenallee, along which there are some beautiful monumental farms. At the end of this driveway is Huize Almelo, a castle from 1652. Just outside Almelo you cycle through Weitemanslanden. The land was cleared here in the 1930s as a job creation project. However, the intended Weitemans village did not materialize: it remained a hamlet. The route ends at B&B Sagenland & Theehuis Het Zoete Zusje.
