Tour of Schultenwolde and Almelo

This route takes you through Almelo and the surrounding area. First you cycle to Landgoed Schultenwolde. Here you will find a small-scale cultural landscape, but also forest and heathland. You pass the Hondeven, a so-called pingo ruin that is estimated to be 25,000 years old. Further on you cycle a bit along the canal that connects Almelo with the German Nordhorn. Then you cycle up the Gravenallee, along which several beautiful monumental farms are located. At the end of this driveway is Huize Almelo, a castle from 1652. Just outside Almelo you cycle through Weitemanslanden. The land here was reclaimed in the 1930s as a job creation project. However, the intended Weitemansdorp did not come about: it remained a hamlet. The route ends again at B&B Sagenland/De Huiskamer van Sagenland.
