Round Rijsterbos and Wyldemark

Your route starts at Rijsterbosch, in the wooded Gaasterland. Former mayor Gaaikema saved the local forests from the axe, the residents are still grateful for that! You first make a loop along the monumental beeches and oaks in the Rijsterbos, or Rysterbosk. From the main avenue you have a beautiful view over the IJsselmeer near Mirns. Then you walk through the green to Wyldemerk. Long ago an annual market was held here, hence the name. Sand extraction has created a large pond, which is connected to De Luts (part of the Elfstedenroute). Sand martins nest in the sand embankment and part of the area has been designated as a dragonfly reserve. Stick back to your starting point, the pancake house has a beautiful terrace.
