Tour of Holtingerveld and Dwingelderveld

The route starts at Buitengoed Weerwille. From here you cycle to the woods of the Holtingerveld. Here and there, craters in the ground bear witness to a bombing raid on a German airfield that was located here in World War II. Hence the very straight road just above Havelte! A little later you imagine yourself far from civilization in Dwingelderveld National Park. This is the largest marshy heathland in Western Europe. You can cycle beautifully along rolling heathland, shifting sand, forest and dozens of lakes and fens. Rainwater does not penetrate into the ground here due to an impermeable layer below the soil surface. In this way, more than sixty fens and moors have been created spread over the area. In the summer, cap and heather colors the area beautifully pink and purple. At the end of the route you will return to Buitengoed Weerwille. In the characteristic Drenthe landscape you can go to Buitengoed Weerwille for a cup of coffee or tea with homemade cakes, lunch or snacks with a nice drink. You look out over the first Pitch & Putt course that was built in 1998 in Ruinerwold. This 18-hole course is beautifully embedded in the landscape. Differences in length and obstacles such as sand bunkers, trees and ponds make each hole challenging and unique.
