Tour of Twiske and Broek in Waterland

Your route starts at ParkCafé - Herdenkingspark Westgaarde. You drive through Zaandam to the Oostzanerveld. This area is part of the Laag Holland National Landscape. As part of the Natura 2000 area Ilperveld, Varkensland, Oostzanerveld and't Twiske, this unique peat meadow area has been given a protected status. The so-called 'vaarboeren' used to go here with their boat to the cows.'t Twiske is a nature and recreation area that was created partly through peat extraction. Here you have beautiful views over the Stootersplas and the overgrown marshlands. Broek in Waterland is a beautiful old village where you can see many monumental wooden houses, often painted in pastel shades. D\\\'Admiraal is a chalk and trass mill from 1792: the last example of this type of mill. From 1900 onwards, chalk was ground here for the paint industry.
