Den Helder, North Holland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 386068
Provided by: route.nl
You start this route at Fort Kijkduin. This fort was built in 1811 by order of Napoleon Bonaparte, who thought that Den Helder had an ideal strategic location. The fort originally consisted of a redoubt with two bastions. When the sea wall was reinforced, part of the defenses that surrounded the fort disappeared. From here you cycle the first few kilometers through the dunes. Via Julianadorp you cycle to Breezand. Time for a break on the cozy terrace of Eetcafe De Witte Brug. Around Breezand you cycle past the bulb fields, after which you explore the Rehorstpark. In Den Helder you see, among other things, the Nieuwe Kerk from 1839, on the water you see the former naval shipyard Willemsoord. Along the North Sea you cycle back to the starting point.
