The landscape in Drenthe is incredibly varied. From green stream valleys to rugged plains, dense forests and heaths, you will find it all here. In the middle of these nature reserves are old green villages and historic Saxon farms that are reminiscent of times long gone.
Folklore in Orvelte
This route takes you through forests and heaths, but also past various towns. Orvelte is the first village you encounter during your bike ride. Take a break here and admire the old farmhouses and other historic farms in this so-called museum village. Fun events are regularly organized in Orvelte, such as folkloric markets. You can also look inside some farms to get acquainted with old crafts such as sawing wood and making clogs. A little further on you cycle through Zweeloo and Aalden. Just outside Aalden is the Jantina Hellingmolen from 1891.

The Jantina Hellingmolen in Aalden is a corn mill from the 19th century. The mill was built in 1891 as a replacement for an old mill that had been there since 1835. Since 1652, several mills have stood on this site. The mill is named after the woman who owned the mill for a long time. The mill has been restored several times over the years. Today, the mill is operated on a voluntary basis.
