Cross-border nature around Venlo

With this route you will discover the beautiful nature in the border region of Venlo and Germany. First you drive through the Venloër Heide. Here you will see a mix of heathlands and deciduous and coniferous trees. There are also remains of the Venlo-Herongen air base that was almost completely destroyed in 1944. Just outside Venlo you will pass Arenborg, a monumental mansion that partly dates back to the seventeenth century. Further on you will pass through the Zwart Water nature reserve. Here lies the Venkoelen, an old Maas meander. At Jagersrust you can get off for a refreshing break, after which you drive to the Leeremarksche Heide. This forest area is part of the Maasduinen National Park. Back in Germany you drive through the rural area around Straelen. You end the route with a delicious meal at Restaurant Birkenhof.
