Walk Somerense Heide

Anyone who goes for a walk near Someren often chooses the Strabrechtse Heide. Yet there are also beautiful alternatives, such as a walk through the Somerense Heide. Until 1920 this was an extensive heathland that extended to Weert. The heath was cleared for agriculture and conifers were planted on what remained in a rectangular layout pattern. Since the turn of the century, the area has changed from a straight coniferous forest to a mixed forest. Part of the former heath was also restored, with several artificial fens being created. The largest of these is called the Keelven. It is beautiful and wonderfully peaceful to walk along the water here. You can also relax and enjoy the fresh air in the rest of the forest. The route ends at Boscafe De Soete Inval.
