Tour of Elsloo, Valkenburg and Meerssen

Geulle aan de Maas is an ideal starting point for a day of cycling in the Limburg hills. In the old village centre you will see the Sint-Martinus church. Along the Julianakanaal you cycle to Elsloo. In the Dorpsstraat there are so many old buildings that time seems to have stood still here. The route then takes you eastwards, through the hills. Every now and then you have to climb a bit, but the views make your effort more than worth it. Just past Schin op Geul you cycle through the Geuldal. Here you pass Kasteel Schaloen and Kasteel Oost, after which you cycle through Valkenburg. Via Meerssen you descend again towards the Maas. Kasteel Geulle is an outer bailey of a seventeenth-century castle that has been demolished. But this too is an impressive castle in itself!
