City walk through the fortified town of Grave

The fortified town of Grave is a beautiful place for a city walk. No fortified city has been conquered and besieged as often as this one. It's a wonder there is so much beauty left. The city is located at a strategic point in the landscape, at the mouth of the Raam. It was besieged seven times. Sometimes there were five times as many soldiers as inhabitants. Spaniards and French ravaged the city, but tough Grave always scrambled to its feet. You will learn more about the history in the Graafs Museum, located in the historic Hampoort. In the summer you can enjoy the countless boats on the Maas. Your route starts and ends at Het Grote Broertje, a nice place to eat something!
