Description

The fortified town of Grave is a beautiful place for a city walk. No fortified town has been conquered and besieged as often as this one. It is a wonder that so much beauty remains. The town is located at a strategic point in the landscape, at the mouth of the Raam. It was besieged no less than seven times. Sometimes there were five times as many soldiers as inhabitants. The Spanish and French destroyed the town, but the tenacious Grave always recovered. You can learn more about its history in the Graafs Museum, located in the historic Hampoort. In the summer you can enjoy the countless boats on the Maas here. Your route starts and ends at Het Grote Broertje, a nice place to eat something!
