Description

This area is very versatile with beautiful nature,
estates, castles, rivers and moors.
You start this cycle route in Maarn, after which you cycle
past Huize't Stort, which was built in 1903. Between
junction 2 and 1 you can see the pyramid of Austerlitz,
located at the highest point of the Utrechtse Heuvel?rug. The pyramid was built in 1804 as a tribute
to Napoleon Bonaparte.
After this you cycle past estates, the Cape Forests and
Poorthuis Ruiterberg castle, which dates from 1950. In
the Cape Forests you see many elements from the past,
such as paths and burial mounds.
The Leersumse Veld used to be an area of drifting sand and heath. There are still traces of this today
to see. Peat formed in wet places. It was around 1800
this peat is used for fuel, creating the Leersum?se Plassen.
