Discover the charm of North Limburg

You can take wonderful bike rides in the northernmost tip of Limburg. In this rolling landscape you drive through forests and along the Maas bank. And you will find traces of the ancient Romans.

German border
You drive a bit across the border with Germany. On the left is the Reichswald, on the right you look out over rural North Limburg. On the border is L8, a listening point from the Liberation Route. Here you will learn more about the beginning of the Rhineland Offensive in 1945. In Ven-Zelderheide you will see the Rust Na Arbeid, a flour mill from 1881. A little further on you will pass the centuries-old Roepaen Estate. The monastery building, built in 1881, now serves as a cultural center.

Genneperhuis
From the Niers stream valley you drive into Gennep, an old and pleasant town with a fortress past. A little further on, the Niers flows into the Maas. The Genneperhuis, a castle destroyed by the French in 1710, once stood here. There is now a watchtower on the foundations. Just past Middelaar you will pass an excavation of a Roman bridge on the Maas bank. After your tour, enjoy a traditional ice cream on the terrace of Clevers IJssalon Plasmolen.
