Discover the charm of North Limburg

In the northernmost tip of Limburg, you can enjoy wonderful bike rides. In this rolling landscape, you'll ride through forests and along the banks of the Meuse River. You'll also find traces of the ancient Romans.

German border
You'll drive a short distance across the German border. On your left is the Reichswald forest, and on your right you'll look out over rural North Limburg. On the border is L8, a listening point from the Liberation Route. Here you'll learn more about the start of the Rhineland Offensive in 1945. In Ven-Zelderheide, you'll see the Rust Na Arbeid (Rest After Labour), a grain mill dating from 1881. A little further on, you'll pass the centuries-old Roepaen Estate. The monastery building, built in 1881, now serves as a cultural center.

Gennep House
From the Niers river valley, you drive into Gennep, a charming old town with a fortified past. A little further on, the Niers flows into the Meuse River. Here once stood the Genneperhuis, a fortress destroyed by the French in 1710. A watchtower now stands on its foundations. Just past Middelaar, you'll come to the Meuse bank, passing the excavation site of a Roman bridge. After your journey, enjoy a homemade ice cream on the terrace of Clevers Ice Cream Parlor Plasmolen.
