Walking through the Roer valley near Melick

You can enjoy walking around Melick. With this route you have the best of both worlds: you walk through nature and through a cozy village with a rich history.

St. Andrew's Church
From the intersection of Exgaard - Heinsbergerweg you will see the Tonnedenhof, a farm from the seventeenth century. Opposite it, just behind the gas station, is a cemetery. There was already a small church on this former church hill in the thirteenth century with parts from the Roman period. The St. Andrew's Church was built here in 1867. When the Germans wanted to blow up the tower in 1945, they used too heavy a charge, so the entire church was destroyed. The St. Andrew's Church in the village was rebuilt in the 1950s.

Roerdal
The route also takes you through the Roer valley. On the shore you can enjoy the silence and the beautiful view of grasslands, fields and tufts of trees. On the eastern edge of Melick is the Prins Bernhard, a flour mill. It is a replica built in 1999 of an example that was destroyed by war in 1944.
