Walking through the Roer valley near Melick

You can enjoy walking around Melick. With this route you have the best of both worlds: you walk through nature and through a cozy village with a rich history.

Saint Andrew's Church
From the intersection Exgaard - Heinsbergerweg you can see the Tonnedenhof, a farm from the seventeenth century. Opposite, just behind the gas station, is a cemetery. In the thirteenth century there was already a church with parts from Roman times on this former church mountain. In 1867 the Saint Andrew's Church was built here. When the Germans tried to blow up the tower in 1945, they used too heavy a charge, so that the entire church was destroyed. In the 1950s, the Sint-Andreaskerk in the village was rebuilt.

Roer valley
The route also takes you through the valley of the Roer. On the shore you can enjoy the silence and the beautiful view of grasslands, fields and tufts of trees. On the eastern edge of Melick is the Prins Bernhard, a corn mill. It is a replica built in 1999 of a copy that was destroyed by war in 1944.
