Between 2007 and 2011, the agricultural area here was transformed into nature with sparse grassland, reed marshes, bushes and pools. Both De Schammer and Bloeidaal have developed into a special bird-rich nature reserve in a short time. There are birds such as the reed warbler, tufted duck, goldfinch, grasshopper warbler, bluethroat and snipe. In the swampy areas interesting flora can be found with plants such as the large rattle, spotted reed orchid, winged stag's hay and swamp clubmoss
