Description

Coevorden is the oldest town in Drenthe. It has a rich history as a fortress and is home to many beautiful old buildings. Ideal for exploring via a walk. The route takes you past the Reformed Church from 1641. This is one of the first Protestant church buildings in the Netherlands. Further on you walk along the old city canal. Here you clearly recognize the star shape that Coevorden had as a fortress. At the harbor you will see two more warehouses that are located in the former seventeenth-century arsenal. The Stedelijk Museum Coevorden is located in one of them. Further on you walk past Coevorden Castle, after which you walk through the Van Heutsz Park. Finally, you walk along Molenstraat past some former garrison houses from 1765. The route ends at Hotel Restaurant Talens.
