Enjoy green Gelderland

You can cycle carefree through a varied landscape between the Gelderland towns of Vorden and Ruurlo. You drive through beautiful nature reserves, but also past cultural-historical sights such as Den Bramel Castle and Molen Ons Belang.

Big Field
The Grote Veld was once a vast heathland area where you could see for miles, even all the way to Lochem and Almen. Only a few remains of this old heathland remain, because conifers were planted here around 1920. Not bad either, because it is wonderful to cycle in the fragrant shelter of the vast forest. Just above Barchem you see two fifty-meter-high wooded hills in the landscape: a striking view.

Beekvliet
The Beekvliet is a characteristic Achterhoek estate along the Barchem-Borculo road. Here you cycle through a mosaic of farmland, deciduous and coniferous forests, impressive tree-lined avenues and hedgerows. Ruurlo is a pleasant town with a beautiful historic center including the fourteenth-century Village Church. Here you will also see Molen Agneta, a wood and flour mill from 1851. A little further on is Molen Ons Belang, a flour mill from 1890.

Den Bramel Castle
Just above Vorden you drive past Castle Den Bramel. There was already a castle on this site in the fourteenth century, but nothing remains of that castle. The current building was built between 1720 and 1726 and then renovated several times. The estate is open to the public, the castle and surrounding gardens are private.
