From Camping and Camping Farm't Boerenerf you drive through the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park, a gently rolling landscape of heathlands and old deciduous and coniferous forests. In the Gelderse Vallei you do not see dense forests, but a lowland with meadows and beautiful views. Scherpenzeel was once located at a strategic point on the border of Gelre and Het Sticht (Utrecht). Here you see the monumental Reformed Church from 1300. Just below Leusden you cycle a short distance along the Valleikanaal, which formed an important part of the Grebbe Line. The Grebbe Line has the status of a national monument because it is a unique example of defense works. The casemates here are silent witnesses of the Second World War. One of those casemates on the Langesteeg has been set up as an information point about the Grebbe Line.
