Tour of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and Grebbelinie

From Camping and Camping Farm't Boerenerf you drive through the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park, a slightly undulating landscape of heathlands and old deciduous and coniferous forests. In the Gelderse Vallei you will not see dense forests, but a lowland with meadows and beautiful views. Scherpenzeel was once located at a strategic point on the border of Gelre and Het Sticht (Utrecht). Here you can see the monumental Reformed Church from 1300. Just below Leusden you cycle a bit along the Valleikanaal, which formed an important part of the Grebbelinie. The Grebbelinie has the status of national monument because it is a unique example of defense works. The casemates here are silent witnesses of the Second World War. On the Langesteeg one of these casemates has been set up as an information point about the Grebbelinie.
