Tour of Oisterwijk, Koningshoeven and the Holy Eik Chapel

This route takes you through Oisterwijk and the surrounding area. Oisterwijk was granted city rights in the thirteenth century and the rich history of this small town can still be seen in the monumental buildings. Cycling through De Lind, the old marketplace that has the status of a protected cityscape, you will see some beautiful mansions and a centuries-old lime tree. Then you drive to Koningshoeven Abbey, a Trappist monastery from 1881. In the middle of the forest you will find the Chapel of the Sacred Oak, a particularly atmospheric spot. In 1406, two shepherds are said to have found a statue of Mary in the De Beerze stream and placed it in an oak tree. You cycle back to your starting point via another beautiful authentic town, Spoordonk.
