Provided by: Groots Genieten
This route takes you through Oisterwijk and the surrounding area. Oisterwijk was granted city rights as early as the thirteenth century, and the rich history of this small town is still reflected in its monumental buildings. Cycling through De Lind, the old market square that has protected cityscape status, you'll see several beautiful mansions and a centuries-old linden tree. Then you'll cycle to Koningshoeven Abbey, a Trappist monastery dating from 1881. Nestled in the heart of the forest, you'll find the Chapel of the Holy Oak, a particularly charming spot. In 1406, two shepherds are said to have found a statue of the Virgin Mary in the De Beerze stream here and placed it in an oak tree. You'll cycle back to your starting point via another beautiful, authentic village, Spoordonk.
