Today's route takes you along both banks of the IJssel River and includes a visit to the Hanseatic city of Doesburg. Doesburg received city rights in 1237, making it one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The Rhederoord estate originated in the 17th century when Willem Everwijn purchased several farms and pastures between Rheden and De Steeg. The history of Middachten Castle dates back to 1190. The estate, "Hof te Dieren," came into the possession of the Teutonic Knights in 1218. Stadtholder William II purchased it in 1647. Along the way, stop for a bite to eat or a drink at Restaurant Houtplaats, beautifully situated at the foot of the Posbank. A truly enjoyable route!
