Country estates on the Veluwezoom

Today you will take a tour of historic country houses, beautifully situated on the edge of the Veluwe hills. The route takes you along both river banks of the IJssel and you also visit the Hanseatic city of Doesburg. Doesburg received city rights in 1237, making it one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands! The Rhederoord estate was founded in the 17th century when Willem Everwijn purchased several farms and meadows between Rheden and De Steeg. The history of Middachten Castle even goes back to the year 1190. The estate'Hof te Dieren\\\' came into the possession of the monastic knights of the Teutonic Order in 1218. Stadtholder William II bought it in 1647. Stop off at Restaurant Houtplaats en route for a snack or a drink, beautifully situated at the foot of the Posbank.
