Just over the border in Germany there are beautiful areas to explore by bike. You only have to cycle a few meters across the border near Swalmen and you will immediately find yourself in beautiful extensive forests and nature reserves. Cross-border cycling, you just want to try that.
Historic gems in Brüggen
Get on your bike on the banks of the Hariksee. From here you cycle via the town of Born to Brüggen. This city has a rich history dating back to the late Middle Ages. It is therefore not surprising that you can view many remains of historic buildings here. Think of an old medieval city gate, a medieval water lock and the remains of a castle from the 13th century. So it is definitely advisable to get off your bike and take a look at this city. You then cycle through beautiful vast forests in the direction of the Dutch border.
Waldhaus am Hariksee
Then you cycle back to the starting point of the route via Herkenbosch. There you can have a nice bite to eat or a drink at Waldhaus am Hariksee. On the menu you will find fresh homemade dishes such as smoked trout or homemade cakes. You can satisfy your hunger with that.
Southwijk
A little outside Swalmen you cycle past the castle farm Zuidewijk. This is a fortified house with a large granary on top dating back to 1460. Over the centuries, the farm has had several owners and the castle has also been restored several times. The castle is located in a rustic environment.
