War and Peace bike tour

The route starts at De Nieuwenhof on the Nieuwenhofseweg in Mill. 

At De Nieuwenhof is the Asparagus Monument, which commemorates the Battle of Mill. The war started with the Battle of Mill, in which Dutch soldiers derailed a German army train on the so-called German Line. In the vicinity of the Asparagus Monument also the remains of the Peel window scaffolding.

The route goes from Mill to Grave. Along the way (Grinderijweg, a side street of the Langenboomseweg) there is listening point 127 of the LIberation route, on the spot where the Allies set up a temporary military airfield at the end of the war. 

In Grave, including the Casemate Museum and a listening point (123) at the Thompson Bridge, the first bridge that the Allies captured as part of Operation Market Garden. 

Along the Maas from Grave to Cuijk, where the casemates along the Maas Line remind us of the brave attempts to stop the German invasion. Along the way there is also the village of Katwijk where there was heavy fighting and where, among other things, the railway bridge was destroyed. In Katwijk there is also a war memorial that commemorates the battle fought by the Stoot Troop Regiment. At the church in Cuijk listening spot 131 of the LIberation Route.

The cycle tour goes back to Mill via Cuijk.
