Tour of Aamsveen and Witte Veen from Enschede

This route takes you through the beautiful scenic landscape in a region where the Achterhoek, Twente and German North Rhine-Westphalia merge. The Aamsveen was created after the excavation of the raised peat. You will find wet swamp forests, heathland and poor grassland: a special combination where a wide diversity of animals feel at home. Then you follow the German border south and drive through the rural German border area to the Witte Veen. This heathland and forest area used to be a popular border crossing for smugglers. This authentic farming landscape is of course not without beautiful Saxon farms, you will come across a number of them. You will also pass Het Rutbeek, a natural recreation area around a sand quarry.
