De Ronde Venen, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 360726
Provided by: Groots Genieten
This walking route takes you along the Kromme Mijdrecht, which forms part of the border between Utrecht and South Holland. A quiet area where you have beautiful views of settled polders and the rippling water. You also walk past the De Groene Jonker nature reserve and the picturesque town of De Hoef.
The Green Jonker
A large lake, rustling reed collars and wet grasslands: that is De Groene Jonker. A relatively young nature reserve that is still in full development. Special meadow and marsh birds can be admired here at any time of the year, such as black-winged stilts, black-eared grebes, lapwings and black terns. The spoonbill also likes to eat here. You see them wading through the water in spring and summer, sometimes up close. So be sure to bring your binoculars!
The Hoof
Walking along the dike you can be amazed at the peace and quiet in this region. You will also enjoy the beautiful high Dutch skies with the clouds floating by. De Hoef is a pleasant town where the monumental Pondskoekersluis from the second half of the nineteenth century is located. In the village you can admire the Anthony of Padua, a church from 1921.
