Cycling through Leiden and the polders

The first kilometers you drive along the banks of the Wijde Aa. You make a shortcut to Woubrugge, a little later you pass the Veendermolen, which dates from 1830. Then you drive to Rijpwetering, the village where Joop Zoetemelk grew up. You also pass through the vast Boterhuispolder. From the dike you have a beautiful view of the Joppe, one of the waters that belong to the Kagerplassen. You pass the Boterhuismolen from 1744, just past junction 36 you drive over the dike along the river Zijl. In Leiden you see plenty of monumental buildings, such as the Morspoort. At the Hortus botanicus Leiden you can visit the grand café for a stopover, after which you leave the city along the Oude Rijn. You cycle back to the starting point through the polders.
