Cadzand: Zwin route

The row of dunes between the Netherlands and Belgium is interrupted by a wide channel: the Zwin. This route (39 km) takes you past salt marshes, mud flats and sand plains. But also through border villages with a typical Flemish character.
In the 12th century, the Zwin was a powerful estuary to Bruges. The estuary silted up and turned into an impassable area of creeks, channels and salt marshes. It is now a dynamic nature reserve where ebb and flow alternate.
Along the way you will pass through bustling border towns such as Sluis, but also through tranquil villages such as Sint Anna ter Muiden. At Cadzand-Bad the boulevard turns into a cycle path outside the dike with a view over the Western Scheldt.
