Friesland is more than the province with the many lakes. In the east lie the relatively high sandy soils of the Friese Wouden. Get on the saddle for a special tour.

Frisian churches
On car-free roads you drive through the Friese Wouden. A region that is characterized by a small-scale coulisse landscape of beautiful forests, hedgerows, heathlands, grasslands and winding streams. You won't find mounds here, but you will find many characteristic cross-house farms and monumental buildings. And of course beautiful centuries-old churches, such as in Eastermar and Twijzel.

Kollumer Cheese
The village green of Veenklooster enjoys a protected village view. Here you can see It Lytse Slot from 1870. And Fogelsangh State, a stins from 1646 that you can visit. You also pass through Kollum. Here you can still experience the atmosphere of times gone by, thanks in part to the beautiful fifteenth-century Maartenskerk. This village is also known for the raw milk Kollumer Cheese. In Gerkesklooster you can find the striking Reformed Church. This fifteenth-century building was initially a monastery brewery, but was converted into a church in 1629.
