Route Harlingen via Sexbierum 24.5 km (HW06) version 2

After you have parked your car for free at the day parking lot on Westerzeedijk (after the fire station), you start here from Zuiderplein and then take the route towards the Tsjerk Hiddes locks, after which you continue via Midlum to Herbaijum. Just in the built-up area of Herbaijum we turn off and continue via the Miedleane, the former road to Wijnaldum. Due to the arrival of the A31 there, this road is no longer suitable for car traffic. Through a bicycle tunnel you can still use this route, for example as a walker. After the Miedleane that ends at the Foarryp, which you walk down towards Getswerderzijl. In Getswerderzijl there is a monument in memory of the demolished lock (zijl) there, which was the only one with doors in the long Slachtedijk. We continue along the cycle path that takes you to Sexbierum. Here you can take a break when open at café de Harmonie at about 14.5 km. When it is not open, there is also the local supermarket on the Nije Buorren, possibly for the inner man. Tip Also visit the store Pand 28, where you can purchase a wide variety of items from bicycle lights to furniture. At the end of the Nije Buorren, we turn left towards Pietersbierum and cross the regional Hearewei (N393) and walk via the cycle path towards Harlingen, where we walk via the rural inner path to Wijnaldum over the bridge (over the 11steden skating route) and through to the old village, after which we immediately turn right again towards the N393 via a second bridge over the same canal, the Ried : TAKE CARE WHEN CROSSING. We continue our way again on the cycle path towards Harlingen. After 2 km we arrive at the Blijnse, a hamlet, where there used to be a bridge over the Ried again, where the Elfsteden skaters didn't have to mess around at the time. Earlier before the concrete bridge there was talk of the Blijnser Tille, or the wooden bridge of the Bijnse. Continuing towards the aforementioned Harlingerstraatweg, we will walk the route to Midlum again, after which we will now walk in the opposite direction via the Koningsbrug until the intersection at the Grensweg. Here we choose to turn right and continue our route over the Kanaalweg until we arrive at the Zuidoostersingel and take it in the left direction (so: left before the bridge). We are now making good progress, and we will follow the path along the Harmenspark towards the next bridge that we cross and which leads us via the Rozengracht to our end point.
