Description
This route was created with the help of Dennis Appels (avifauna animal care).
The nice thing about this route is that it meanders along the river through a typical Dutch landscape. The view is different at every turn. There are also two nice cafés on the route where you can take a break and have something to eat or drink. There are several bird viewing points along the Hollandse Kade, near the Nieuwkoopse Plassen; huts, benches and signs with descriptions. The ultimate bird to spot here is the bittern, but you will also find grebes, tufted ducks, gadwalls and other water birds. This is also otter territory.
